Community displays support of health, wellness

This summer, I sponsored Erie County’s largest Family Health Fair for the seventh year in a row.

More than 1,000 residents attended the three-hour fair to participate in a record level of free screenings and ser- vices, including: 670 blood pressure checks; 205 glucose and cholesterol tests; 72 skin cancer screenings; 66 prostate cancer screenings; 65 hearing checks; 61 bone density heel scans; 30 glaucoma screenings; 30 foot screenings; and 13 vaccinations.

Additionally, a total of 10 whole blood units were collected as part of the event’s Unyts blood drive, potentially saving up to 30 lives in Western New York.

The success of the event would not be possible without our community partners: Kaleida Health, Amherst Center for Senior Services, Coca Cola Bottling Company, Tops, Upstate Niagara Cooperative, more than 90 health providers, as well as many many volunteers and staff.

Again, thank you to our entire community for caring so much about health and wellness.

State Sen. Michael
