John P. Lane, retired State Supreme Court justice
Mr. Lane graduated from the University of Buffalo Law School in 1953. He held a private practice from 1953 to 1996.
He assumed the bench in 1996 as a judge on the New York State Court of Claims. In 2000, he became a judge on the New York State Supreme Court, Eighth Judicial District.
Mr. Lane was also a Town of Amherst councilman from 1966 to 1971 and the Amherst town attorney from 1971 to 1996.
He was a member of the Erie County Bar Association and The Rascal Club and was one of the founding members of the Amherst Gaelic League.
Mr. Lane is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jenny (nee Campman); seven children, Maureen, John Jr., Colleen Lane-Rafferty, Timothy, Michael, Nora, and Jennifer Snider; three stepchildren, Timothy, Todd and Thomas Weeks; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one child, Kathleen, and two siblings, Rosemary Forsyth and Robert Lane Sr.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, in the Newman Center, 495 Skinnersville Road, Amherst. Arrangements were made by the Beach-Tuyn Funeral Home Inc.
