Amherst Youth and Recreation plans summer programs

Amherst Youth and Recreation has announced some of its summer programs and open registrations. For more information or to register for a program, call 631-7132 or visit www.amherstyouthandrec.org.

Ecology camp, for ages 8 to 14, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, Aug. 20 to 24, at the Williamsville Youth Center, 5005 Sheridan Drive. The camp is designed to introduce participants to nature by exploring and learning about the world around them. For more information, call 941-6267.

The Glen Park Weekly Nature Series, for children ages 7 and older, is held Tuesdays at the Noll Nature Center in Glen Park, located on Glen Avenue between Cayuga Road and Mill Street. Each week brings a different themed lesson about the different facets of nature. The cost is $5 per child per week. Dates and topics include Aug. 14, “Stream Walkers” and Aug. 21, “Animal Engineers.”

Children’s tennis is now being offered at the North Forest, Clearfield, Briarhurst, Willow Ridge and Smallwood courts. For information, contact Angelo Lorenzo, 631-7132, ext. 7517 or e-mail alorenzo@amherst.ny.us.

Registration for sports clinics is now available. Several half-day, weeklong themed sports clinics, including baseball, net sports, outdoor adventure, amazing races, floor hockey, field days, game week, gatorball, splash frenzy and more, are available for children ages 6 to 13 at all ability levels.
