Amherst Lions award scholarships

For several years, the Amherst Lions Club has supported youths by providing college fund awards to one outstanding senior attending each of the five high schools in the Town of Amherst. The Amherst Lions Club College Fund Award was established to assist seniors in getting their college career started.

The following students received a $500 award from the Lions Club:

• Dante Lasting, a recent graduate of Amherst Central High School who will be majoring in musical theater and minoring in communications at SUNY Fredonia.

• Patrick Hayter, a recent graduate and valedictorian of Sweet Home High School who will be majoring in chemical engineering at Cleveland State University.

• Anthony LaFornara, a recent graduate of Williamsville East High School who will be majoring in musical theater and minoring in business management at Emerson College.

• Taylor Krawiec, a recent graduate of Williamsville North High School who will be attending John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

• Ryan Fuller, a recent graduate of Williamsville South High School who will be majoring in engineering at West Virginia University.

The students were chosen by a committee within their respective schools following criteria of community service, both in and out of school, academia and need. All awardees reflect the club’s long tradition of community service and dedication to helping those in need.

The Amherst Lions Club has been serving the Amherst area since April 1952, following the precepts of Lions International and their various service projects throughout the world.

The club is always looking for interested adults who would like to serve their community as members of a service organization in the area.

Amherst Lions meet the second and fourth Mondays of each month for a 7 p.m. dinner at The Eagle House, 5578 Main St., Williamsville.
