Lifetime achievement award given to Wutz of Williamsville


Wutz Wutz The Erie County Volunteer Firemen’s Association recently presented Michael P. Wutz of Williamsville with its Lifetime Achievement Award.

The nomination was made by Williamsville Chief Michael A. Measer.

Wutz joined the Hutchinson Hose Company in May 1964 and served as an active firefighter for 40 years.

“He continues to this day to provide support to our fire prevention program as a valued member of our department,” said Measer.

Wutz served the company as financial secretary, recording secretary and legislative chairman; was a member of the bylaw committee, review board and building committee; and was vice president and president (1973 and 1979).

He also served the Williamsville Fire Department as captain, EMS squad captain and assistant chief.

Wutz has also served with the Erie County Volunteer Firemen’s Association and chaired the audit committee, budget committee, legislative committee, steering committee and convention committee, and was secretary and treasurer.

As a member of the Erie County Fire Chiefs Mutual Aid Organization, he has held many committee assignments, currently holding the office of treasurer for more than 42 years.

A life member of the Western New York Volunteer Firemen’s Association, he served as its president in 1977.

Elected vice president in 2002 and president in 2006, he still serves the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York on the scholarship committee and fire service community achievements awards committee.

Wutz served the FASNY Foundation as a director for six years and was grants committee chairman. He was appointed to the New York State Fire Advisory Board and served that board for eight years and served on the Erie County Fire Advisory Board for four years.
