Positive impact needed in state politics
I am Jonathan Makeley, and I am running as a candidate for the New York State Assembly, in the 146th district, which represents Amherst.
I am a historian of 19th-century American reform movements, a writer and an activist.
I am running in order to help make a positive impact on our state’s politics. To promote a politics based on moral principle, ethical public service and advancing the well-being of people.
My positions include support for stronger ethics laws for public officials, reducing the burden of property taxes, improving the quality of education, making college more affordable, stronger efforts to address the problems of alcohol and drugs, passing the Child Victims act and Brittany’s Law, and a holistic approach to economic development.
I am seeking to get on this year’s ballot through an independent nominating petition. I will need to collect 1,500 signatures from registered voters in Amherst, Williamsville and Pendleton during the petitioning period to be able to get on the ballot.
