Death Notices

ERNST, Irene D. (nee Zaremba), of Amherst, died Saturday, May 5, 2018. Mrs. Ernst is survived by one child, Barbara Mulloy. She was preceded in death by her husband, William. Family and friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 18, at the Dietrich Funeral Home Inc., 2480 Kensington Ave., Amherst, where a memorial service will follow. Memorials may be made to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Serving Erie County.

GAJEWSKI, Florence G. (nee Fijalkowski), of Amherst, died Saturday, May 5, 2018. Mrs. Gajewski is survived by three children, Dianne Mania, Robert Gajewski and Maryann Sobczyk; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, and one grandchild. A Mass of Christian Burial was held May 14 at St. Gregory the Great Church. Arrangements were made by the Amigone Funeral Home Inc. Memorials may be made to the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation.

KRAUS, John J., of Amherst, died Friday, May 11, 2018. Mr. Kraus is survived by his wife, Adele (nee Piatkowski); and one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Kraus. He was preceded in death by one sibling, Albert. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at Christ the King Church, 30 Lamarck Drive, Amherst. Arrangements were made by the Dietrich Funeral Home Inc.

MENDEZ, Luis M., of East Amherst, died Sunday, May 13, 2018. Mr. Mendez is survived by one child, Daniel; two grandchildren; and one sibling, Fernando. A memorial Mass was held on May 15 from Our Lady of Pompeii Church. Arrangements were made by the Amigone Funeral Home Inc. SHANLEY, Peter S., of Amherst, died Saturday, April 28, 2018. Mr. Shanley is survived by his wife, Mary Jane (nee Lewis); three children, Patrick and Peter Shanley and Janey Lipa; and four grandchildren. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 10 a.m. Monday, May 21, at Christ United Methodist Church, 350 Saratoga Road, Amherst. Arrangements were made by the Beach-Tuyn Funeral Home Inc. SORENSON, Merle M., of Amherst, died Saturday, May 12, 2018. Mr. Sorenson is survived by his wife, Nancy (nee Carroll); three children, Patrick, Daniel and Michael; two grandchildren; and four siblings, Howard, Robert, Jean and June. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at the Dietrich Funeral Home Inc., 2480 Kensington Ave., Amherst. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at Infant of Prague Church, 921 Cleveland Drive, Cheektowaga. STOCKTON, Ruth V. (nee Vars), of Amherst, died Thursday, May 10, 2018. Mrs. Stockton is survived by two children, Richard Stockton and Candy Hulton, and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard. A memorial service will be held privately. Arrangements were made by the Dietrich Funeral Home Inc. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

WUEST, Eileen V. (nee Salisbury), of Amherst, died Thursday, May 10, 2018. Mrs. Wuest is survived by her husband, Charles; two children, Charleen Haskell and Christopher Wuest; and three grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on May 15 at Resurrection Church. Arrangements were made by the Dietrich Funeral Home Inc. Memorials may be made to the Buffalo Club of Deaf Senior Citizens or Deaf Access Services.
