Williamsville Farmers Market to open Saturday

Organizers select new site for weekly event

When the Williamsville Farmers Market opens for its 11th season on Saturday, May 19, it will boast a new location that allows patrons easier access to parking and better visibility and exposure for vendors.

The market — which will feature about 35 vendors — will be positioned in the parking lot between the Williamsville Library, 5571 Main St., and the Amherst Municipal Building, 5583 Main St.

“The new location allowed us to take in new vendors this year,” said Ellie Grenauer, market chairperson and co-owner of Glen Park Tavern. “Some of the vendors will also be located in front of the library and [the Municipal Building].”

The farmers market will be open rain or shine from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through October.

In 2017, the market was set up at Mill Plaza on East Spring Street. Grenauer said the decision for the relocation was reviewed in the fall following an end-of-season meeting with the market’s vendors. She said the plaza’s limited space for vendors and patrons was a factor in the move to another site.

“The vendors will be very happy that their ideas were accepted and we listened to their ideas and concerns about the location,” she said.

The market’s new site also provides closer access to public restrooms, which are near the front of Island Park. Grenauer said that as in previous seasons, live music will also be performed each week. She added that Williamsville Library representatives will be occasionally grilling hot dogs for patrons to purchase.

Among the items being sold by market vendors are skin care products, maple syrup, distilled spirits, wine, herbs, bread, coffee beans, flowers, and fruits and vegetables.

“We are really excited because

I think this is going to work great, and I think this [location] will be our new home,” Grenauer said. “We also hope the spot will encourage more walking traffic in the village.”
