Williamsville students to perform with quartet

At the invitation of the University at Buffalo Music Department, the Miró Quartet returns to Western New York this week, featuring musicians from Williamsville Central.

The quartet will perform a pair of programs under the co-sponsorship of the Williamsville Central School District, Williamsville Music Boosters, and UB.

A performance will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at Williamsville North High School, 1595 Hopkins Road. There is no cost to attend the program.

Each of the three Williamsville high schools will perform a piece on their own and then will be joined by the quartet to perform a second work.

At the conclusion of the program, all three high schools will join the Quartet on stage for a performance of Vaughan-Williams’ “Fantasia on a Theme,” by Thomas Tallis. It will be conducted by UB Symphony Orchestra director Rachel Lauber.

This evening program culminates a daylong educational experience with Williamsville students.

The second performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at Lippes Concert Hall in Slee Hall, at UB’s North Campus. Pre-concert music will be performed on stage at 7 p.m. by select Williamsville students.

A post-concert reception with the artists will follow in the lobby.
