Bee Heard

.On Saturday, Jan. 9, the Williamsville Central School District held a public forum for residents to engage in two-way dialogue with school officials. In stark contrast that same exact week, the Amherst School Board president announced that taxpayers no longer will be allowed to speak at the end of their public meetings. Why is there such a different culture of transparency in our neighboring schools?

.Regarding the Williamsville Central School District, I understand the football turf is an important issue for ours students, but what about the issue with Dr. Kim Kirsch and Supervisor Martzloff? There are still ongoing hearings regarding her dismissal. This should be an important issue to taxpayers of the district. We are still paying her salary, a state mediator and all legal bills. We could have built a new sports complex with all the money we have spent on this. I would like to see or hear more news coverage on this to keep us informed. There must be something with Dr. Martzloff if the teachers’ union is now calling for his resignation.

.Just a friendly reminder, there is now a school zone speed limit in the Village of Williamsville from South Cayuga to Reist Street in both directions from 7 to 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on school days. The police are writing tickets.

.It is ridiculous for Supervisor Weinstein to criticize the Democrats for replacing the town attorneys. This happens every time there is a change in party at the top; it is nothing new. The Republicans did the same when they took office under Satish Mohan. I hate this political posturing. Every time a new party comes in, they will appoint new attorneys because the supervisor and town board work closely with them and have to have a feeling of trust.

.The DGEIS for the Mensch plan on Westwood should never have been accepted and released to the public when two town board members believed it was not complete. The ones who voted to approve it deserve scrutiny. There is good reason why even the village questions the viability of the Mensch project. All the proposals again put forth by the developers belie reality. The tax lie is a favorite. How many times do they think the public can be fooled?

.Supervisor Weinstein and Amherst Town Board members: please support and allow the Westwood project to develop.

.The annual State of the Town of Amherst address will be delivered soon. I hope a significant portion of the speech will be devoted to reducing the number of full-time and part-time employees and in future contracts increasing the daily hours worked.
