The Bison Scholarship Fund has scholarship opportunities for the 2008-09 school year. The program assists low-income families in areas of Western New York, including Eggertsville and Snyder.

A privately funded tuition assistance program, Bison Scholarship Fund focuses on economically disadvantaged children from kindergarten through eighth grade.

Tuition assistance is based on the household size and income.

Scholarship winners are selected in May through a computerized lottery. The application deadline is April 25.

Western Division Federal Credit Union has awarded scholarships of $750 to eight high school seniors for outstanding academic performance, including Erica Stricko of Williamsville North High School, and Jennifer Newhouse of Amherst Central High School.

Sarah Rois of Amherst and a senior television-radio film major in Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, will experience the largest film industry in the world through a new, first-of-its-kind internship this spring. "A Bollywood Experience: Internships in Mumbai" is a one-month class offered through SU Abroad that introduces students to the history, aesthetics, language, business and process of filmmaking in India. Rois is one of 12 students who will travel to India to take part in the course under the direction of Tula Goenka, Newhouse associate professor.
