Gaffney named Studio Arena Theatre artistic director

G a ff n e y G a ff n e y Kathleen A. Gaffney has been appointed Studio Arena Theatre's new artistic director, the fourth artistic director in the theatre's 41-year histor y.

A native of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and a graduate of Buffalo State College, Gaffney has a wide background in theatre as an actress, playwright, director and award-winning administrator.

A published author and a nationally recognized speaker, Gaffney is currently president, co-founder and artistic director of Artsgenesis Inc., a nonprofit organization in New York City that creates arts programs for children, parents and educators.

"This is really a joyous homecoming for me," Gaffney said. "I am jubilant at the prospect of coming back home to join the incredible institution of Studio Arena Theatre.

"Buffalo has a rich tradition of excellence in the arts, especially in theatre. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to build on that tradition, and I'm excited to seize it."

"We are absolutely thrilled to have someone with Kathleen's expertise and breadth of experience in the arts take the helm at Studio Arena Theatre," said Studio's Board of Trustees President Michael S. Piemonte.

Gaffney and her husband, Roger Shea, are currently relocating to Buffalo from Jersey City, N.Y.
